Skeena-Queen Charlotte, Ontario, Canada, Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District Surface Water Treatment plant, Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) and Filters

Project Summary:

Project Type:

Design, Build and Service

Project Category:

Domestic Wastewater Treatment

Project Purpose:

To produce potable water from the raw water and to meet the water quality as per the “Guidelines for the Canadian Drinking Water Quality”.
Design Flow: 680 Cubic Metres/day
Year of completion: 2010

Full Description:
Napier-Reid

The system includes two process trains of DAF clarifier and filters. During normal operation, one train will be in operation and one is available as stand-by.

The Treatment Process

The raw water from Honna River is pre-treated by flocculation to remove any pollutants that are initially in an emulsion or a fine colloidal dispersion. The flow enters water treatment train, and is pumped into the Dissolved Air Flotation Tank. In the DAF tank, injected fine air bubbles attach to the pollutant particles through a combination of surface tension, surface charge attraction and encapsulation, and raise the suspended particles to the surface for removal. The effluent from the DAF tank passes through filtration tank then through the sodium hypochlorite chemical feed system for chlorination. The filtration media are anthracite and silica sand. The effluent is discharged to the distribution system.

Dissolved Air Flotation trains

Scope of Supply

  2. Chemical feed systems
One coagulant feed system pre-piped on a polyethylene backboard, one polymer (Coagulant Aid) feed system pre-piped on a polyethylene backboard, one Caustic Soda (pH adjustment) feed system pre-piped on a polyethylene backboard.
  3. Sodium hypochlorite chemical feed system
Two Chemical injection pumps (one duty, one stand by), lot of pump accessories.
  4. Air scour blower assembly

  5. All Necessary instruments
Magnetic flow meters, ultrasonic level sensors, pressure transmitters, turbidity analyzers, pH analyzers and chlorine analyzer.

  6. Access stairs and walkway

  7. Process control system (PLC control panel)
